Trieste - Muggia
a journey through sea and history
If you want to discover the true spirit of our coastline, join me on this journey south.
I’ll take you out onto the stretch of water that links the heart of Trieste with the picturesque town of Muggia.
On board my dinghy, you’ll enjoy a dynamic, up-close experience, far from the crowded ferries, where you can savour the wind and the scent of the sea in complete freedom.
From Piazza Unità d’Italia to Muggia: the beauty of the Gulf seen from below
We’ll set off right in front of the imposing Piazza Unità d’Italia, Europe’s largest square overlooking the sea.
As we sail along the coast, I’ll show you the industrial skyline of the port, which gradually gives way to the gentle curves of the Muggia coastline.
It is a short but intense journey, where the blue of the Adriatic provides the backdrop to a unique panorama.
The dinghy allows us to stay close to the shore, offering you photographic views impossible to capture from the mainland.

Muggia, the pearl of Istrian-Venetian culture: Venetian charm and local traditions
Muggia is not just a port; it is a small town in the Istrian-Venetian region that looks as though it has stepped out of a painting.
As you cross the waters of the valley, you’ll immediately notice the architecture of the buildings and the dialect echoing through the narrow streets, a testament to its deep historical ties with Venice.
With my insights as a local, I’ll help you understand why Muggia is so different from the rest of the province and reveal the little-known facts that make this seaside village a must-visit for anyone who loves the history and traditions of our region.
Disembark at Muggia and relax in the little harbour
The highlight of my excursion?
The direct disembarkation at the little harbour of Mandracchio.
I’ll take you right into the heart of the town, allowing you to stroll through the narrow streets, visit the cathedral or enjoy a traditional aperitif in the square before heading back.
Disembarkation is quick and easy, designed for those who want to experience the sea without missing out on the pleasure of setting foot on dry land and soaking up the atmosphere of a village that still lives to the rhythm of the fishermen.
